Perspectives

I have been pondering a lot recently about what makes a good photo. What makes it interesting? How can an image make you feel something?

It brings me back to when I first got my hands on a GoPro Hero 4 Silver in 2015. (They are up to #12 now…) It was small and light, making it easily portable and mountable. But the image quality…for a camera that small, was incredible. It was this little camera that allowed me to see new perspectives and capture them. I was able to take it underwater, a massive unlock for creativity. The perspectives were different.

When I think about photos, I think it can be distilled into two categories. Capturing memories and making images. Or both together.

Now that we all have phones with amazing cameras it’s incredibly easy to capture memories. Though, it makes me wonder if this ease and convenience is hindering the intentional process of making images.

The making of a good image I think includes an idea, a cool composition and an interesting, new perspective. It is why I believe film cameras have come back in. The process is slower, you have limited shots and the perspective seems so cool. It’s interesting not boring. It’s intentional.

The photos below were taken on that GoPro back in 2015.
