Exchange Program in Berlin

Over the summer I undertook a UTS Global Short Program in Berlin called Planning Social and Economic Neighbourhoods in Transition.

It was fascinating to learn about the different challenges Berlin has gone through and is facing today, from war to demographic change, social exclusion and ecological renewal in urban neighbourhoods.

My favourite topics from the course:

  • Sustainable and compact cities

  • Shrinking cities

  • Berlin’s night economy

  • Berlin-Adlershof Technology Park

  • Smart City Berlin

To me, this opportunity was about understanding the way cities are planned and developed so that we can create sustainable, connected and thriving urban areas.
